OUR QUALITY
W.Legutko Breeding and Seed Company aims to provide the highest standards thus the quality control tests of each seed lot are carried.
Quality control process:
FIRST STAGE OF CONTROL involves the inspection of seed plantations, both in country and abroad. It takes place several times a year at the time of plants flowering or fruiting. The thing to be checked is isolation (very important in the production of vegetable seeds, since it guarantees the varietal purity) and the alignment of morphological features. In the case of ornamental plants include flower color, plant habit and height. If there are plants that differ in terms of the above characteristics that are typical for the sown variety, they are removed immediately after appearing.
SECOND STAGE OF CONTROL is to examine the quality of each seed batch in the laboratory under optimal conditions for them, according to the ISTA international rules. In our laboratory approximately 30 000 seed quality analysis is conducted every year. It is the largest of its kind laboratory in Poland.
For this purpose we have for our disposal:
- the room with constant temperature of 15 C
- the room with variable temperature
- germination cabins with a range from -5 C to 35 C with the possibility of periodic or all-day lighting,
- Jacobsen germinator with temperature and light control (see photos).
Each seed batch after laboratory analysis, if necessary, subject to the complex technology process, which consists in refining, drying and cleaning seeds. Tested again refined seed batches characterized by prior treatment with adequate humidity, purity and germination, are directed to the sales and packaging.
THIRD STAGE OF CONTROL is carried out on control plots. Annually we assume more than 12 000 plots on which we examine all the seed batches purchased from producers and other companies but also sold to the customers in past seasons. The inspection begins with sprouting evaluation. Seeds are sown on pallets in greenhouses and then the sprouting is evaluated. Afterwards the young plants are planted on the plots. At the time of flowering or fruiting their varietal identity is regularly checked.
